Saying goodbye…

Hello DU Study Abroad Blog,

This week is the last week of my internship. My study abroad program ends next Saturday. I feel sad. It feels as though it has all gone by so fast. I can’t believe that my time in Thailand is coming to an end. I have been making an effort to spend as much time as possible with all the students at this school that I have interned at. I have never been good at goodbyes. It has been lovely turning a group of strangers into a community of my own. Everyone has been so kind in the past 6 weeks that I have been here. I didn’t really understand how I was expected to conduct research in under 6 weeks and I would honestly say that the research project has been the hardest part of this internship. It almost took away from the experience entirely and made my presence seem very transactional which didn’t sit right with my personal morals. I made the biggest effort to just enjoy my experience for what it is rather than allow myself to stress over the technicalities of a final paper.

Best,

Sickness and Seasonal spirit

Hello DU Study Abroad Blog,

This may or may not catch you by surprise, but I caught Covid. I tested positive last Saturday after feeling horrible for 2 days. For the protection of those at my internship and for my better health, I had to return to the city to quarantine in a more secluded place where I had more access to care. I spent my week quarantining in my room until I tested negative for Covid. Since I am back in the city, I have taken this as a chance for me to hang with my classmates amidst all our busy internships. The city has become quite festive considering it’s Christmas season already. I’ll be returning back to the village this Sunday once I’m proven fully recovered.

Best,

Namugga Nakayiza
