Light at the end of the road

Hello DU Study Abroad Blog,

This week, I sat in on English classes being taught by the Thai teachers at the school where I’m interning. I took notes on the teaching styles and topics existing within these English classrooms because I shall be doing my research on the dynamics of English classrooms at a Thai government school. I am expected to perform a case study on the school using a theoretical framework. I’ve found it difficult to come to conclusions because of the language barrier, but Google Translate has become my best friend. I didn’t complete the school week though because I have to return to the city to meet with immigration since my study abroad program is longer than 90 days. My program has arranged for all the students to get their visas renewed so this is something I’m not doing individually. After this weekend, I shall be returning to my internship placement for another 3 weeks to finish off the entire time. I’ve enjoyed my internship for the most part.

Best,

The pink cherry blossom school

Hello DU Study Abroad Blog,

This week, I’ve been introducing myself to the students in their designated English classes. I have been leading the classes in introductions individually with my Thai supervisor in the back of the class to assist me with translation. It’s been interesting considering that I have a very limited background in speaking Thai. Luckily, I know how to introduce myself to people in Thai so I haven’t found too huge of an obstacle yet. While I’m interning at this school, I am expected to conduct a research project that I will present to my study abroad program at the end of my internship. This project is just like the Independent Field Research Project that I’ve done twice now since I’ve been here. The only difference with this one is that I’ll have to write an essay at the end and I have 6 weeks to conduct my research instead of just 3 weeks. Wish the best of luck!

Best,

Namugga Nakayiza
