I have very, very large ginger hair.

What is one thing that you are most anticipating about your study abroad experience?

I’m anticipating connecting to a foreign community through skateboarding. I have only been abroad once but when I was in France I didn’t speak a lick of French. I went to the skatepark and met a couple of kids who showed me the city despite the language barrier and I was able to experience France through street culture and skateboarding. I revisit this memory often and it reminds me of the power of common interests and outcast activities.

Why did you decide to study abroad? or What inspired you to study abroad?

I wanted to study abroad to gain a broader perspective on what it means to be at DU. I took a gap year after high school to hike the Appalachian Trail by myself and taking the time away from school gave me a much stronger appreciation for academics. I’m hoping this trip has a sort of similar impact.
