What is one thing that you are most anticipating about your study abroad experience?

I am most anticipating traveling! I discovered a love for traveling while studying abroad in Sweden. Traveling has made me more appreciative of the world around me and encouraged me to try new things and take risks. I love European architecture, and food, but most of all making new friends from around the world. I made many friends in Sweden and neighboring countries that I will be sure to visit. Being in Maastricht which is so central will allow me to easily get around for weekend excursions to be able to experience and learn about other European countries.

Why did you decide to study abroad? or What inspired you to study abroad?

My initial decision to study abroad was based on my dream to become an opera singer and grace all of the European opera houses. One music degree later and I have decided that is not in the cards for me but I still love attending operas in Europe.

When I returned back to DU, there was nothing more I longed for than to be back in Europe. I loved the people I met, the culture, and of course the food. I knew I had to find a way to return.

After living in Sweden for 5 months, I have decided that Europe is a place I hope to relocate to given that I will be working for a global company. Given this desire to live in Europe one day, studying in Maastricht which lies in the heart of Europe will provide a glimpse of the culture and European lifestyle. I hope to learn more about working and living in Europe while I am there.

Spring Break!

Hi again! Spring Break flew by, but it was an amazing week! I went up to Paris for the first time this semester! It was about a three-hour train ride through the beautiful countryside. I spent the week visiting the most touristy sites, such as La Tour Eiffel, Le Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Moulin Rouge, Sacre Cœur, and Notre Dame. The last time I visited Paris, it was three weeks before Notre Dame was engulfed in flames. While I couldn’t go inside this time, it was amazing to see the reconstruction at work.

We were lucky to have great weather in Paris, not too much rain. I also used the Paris Pass, where after you purchase the pass for 1,2,3,4-6 days, you get “free” access to a bunch of sites around Paris and small restaurants for drinks and snacks. I think it was well worth the money, as long as you plan out the locations accordingly!

My boyfriend and I also visited Dublin, Ireland for a day! We did some brief sightseeing and toured the Guinness Storehouse! It was very interesting, however, Guinness is an acquired taste…

This week was incredible, and I am looking forward to returning to Paris in the near future.
