Depending on where you choose to go for study abroad experience, take my advice and take your time. Especially when being in Europe, which speaks for itself when it comes to nearby iconic locations. So far this month I have had the opportunity to travel to Nice, France, which was a quick forty-five-minute plane ride from Milan, as well as to London, UK which is an average of 2 hours away from Milan by plane.
What helped me get the most out of these quick weekend trips was having once again a list of all the locations I wanted to reach. But unlike me do remember that the UK’s currency is pounds and not Euros… That being said, I am sure this is something obvious to a lot of us, to travel when we can, especially when being so close to various locations when abroad. But what I’m sure doesn’t get mentioned much is not to underestimate the different regions of the country you are studying in. For example, I focused on going to Nice, France, instead of researching train tickets to Naples, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast, which are nearby, I am someone who loves the ocean, and the sea in France is beautiful.
It was an experience that could have waited because now in Italy it’s beginning to get cold and jumping into the sea anytime soon is not the best idea. I am glad I realized that, at least for me, it’s very important to explore all of the hidden gems that Italy has to offer, you know, all of the corners that are not shared in social media, all of the quiet yet majestic places such as the book stores in Venice or viewing the current harvest. Truth be told, Nice, London, Paris, and Prague will always be there, but this immersive abroad experience during this season of the year only comes around once.
Ciao!
